Special Education Teacher
Primary Purpose: The Special Education Teacher ensures the successful mastery of a rigorous academic program for all students, focusing specifically on students with academic learning gaps or deficiencies and students with disabilities through the provision of strategic and intensive supports. The Special Education Teacher possesses the unwavering belief that all students, regardless of deficits or disabilities, can achieve greatness and provides effective academic, emotional, and physical services to students to support the mastery of academic and character program.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid TN Teaching Certification in Special Education preferred.
- Experience working with students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, developmental delays, etc.)

Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate unwavering commitment to the success of underperforming, disabled students
- Implement ambitious, rigorous, and standards-aligned curricula, lesson and unit plans, and activities to meet and exceed academic standards
- Participate in collaborative curriculum development process
- Implement rigorous assessments aligned to academic targets
- Provide engaging, differentiated, appropriately paced, and rigorous instruction in whole-class, small group, and individual settings.
- Uphold school-wide and class systems, rules and consequences, disciplinary codes, and rewards at all times
- Analyze student achievement data collaboratively with colleagues and Head of School to critically and strategically respond to the learning needs of students
- Create, conduct, and monitor the successful implementation of 504 Plans and Academic Intervention Plans and Schedules
- Facilitate Support Team Meetings to ensure intervention plans are created for scholars who need additional behavioral support
- Serve as a Special Education Case Manager; create Individualized Education Plans and manage compliance paperwork
- Implement data tracking system and use data to inform instructional development and delivery
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Collaborate with other staff members and actively participate in training, professional development and learning activities
- Work to continuously improve effectiveness in all instructional practices.
- Use feedback to make productive changes in performance
- Complete all administrative requirements by given deadlines
- Be accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards
- Participate in additional school activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout year.
- Participate in school-related community events, such as recruitment fairs, canvassing events, and fundraiser events as needed throughout the year
Work Environment:
- Classroom and school environment, which may include both individual and group instruction.
- May involve working with students in various settings (classroom, therapy rooms, or outdoor spaces).
- Frequent interaction with parents, staff, and administrators.
