Key Responsibilities

• Provide surgical technical support in a Level I trauma hospital setting, assisting in a wide range of surgical procedures including general, trauma, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics, gynecology, oral, and urology surgeries.
• Prepare operating rooms with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring aseptic techniques and safety protocols are followed.
• Assist surgeons and clinical staff during procedures, managing specimen handling, instrumentation, and patient safety measures.
• Float within scope of practice and facility needs, supporting multiple surgical units as required.
• Adhere to compliance standards, including radiation safety, sharps safety, and infection control procedures.
• Support endoscopic and open surgical procedures with specialized instrumentation and equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of surgical technologist experience in a hospital setting.
• Active Illinois surgical technologist license in hand at submission.
• BLS certification required; CST preferred.
• Experience in trauma, teaching hospital, and general surgical procedures.
• Ability to work 4 days per week, 10-hour days, with weekend and holiday availability.
• Must be local or able to commute from over 50 miles away; must reside outside of Springfield area.
• Must complete fingerprinting and compliance requirements prior to orientation.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience supporting ENT, endoscopic, general, gynecological, neurosurgical, oral, orthopedic, plastic, trauma, and urology surgeries.
• Familiarity with Cerner charting system and surgical instrumentation, including drills, electrosurgical units, fiber optic sources, and microvascular techniques.
• Ability to float within scope of practice across various surgical specialties.

Note: This is a travel position requiring flexibility, recent OR experience, and compliance with all necessary hospital and legal requirements. Candidates must be able to work full duration of the assignment, support covering major holidays, and complete all onboarding protocols prior to start.
