Key Responsibilities
- Assess and respond to patients' physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs through observation and interaction, acting as a patient advocate.
- Utilize professional nursing skills and judgment to implement appropriate nursing care and treat identified problems.
- Communicate patient assessments to the relevant team members to ensure coordinated care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic procedures such as lab tests, radiology, and EKG; proficient in IV therapy.
- Transcribe and execute physicians' orders accurately and promptly, and efficiently admit patients to the surgical center.
- Document patient information in clinical records accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with surgical procedures and completing all pre-surgical checks, including site marking and patient-family communication.
- Provide education and instructions to patients and their families regarding care and procedures.
- Manage supplies responsibly by utilizing resources efficiently without compromising patient care.
- Assist with housekeeping tasks such as cleaning and making beds for patients as needed.
- When assigned to PACU, monitor patients’ airway, vital signs, and pain control, and consult with surgeons and anesthesiologists as necessary.
- Evaluate patient status for safe transition to Phase 2 discharge.
- Understand transfer procedures to move patients to medical centers.
- As a float nurse, facilitate communication across departments, assist staff, and cover breaks to maintain workflow.
- Participate in pain management and eye laser procedure rooms as assigned.
- Assist with anesthesia supplies, nerve blocks, and emergency medications; familiar with crash cart and MH cart locations.
- Contribute to committee meetings, suggest improvements, and seek guidance when needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.
- Knowledge of surgical nursing procedures and protocols.
- Ability to assess and respond to patient needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in documentation and communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of diagnostic procedures and IV therapy.
- Familiarity with emergency response equipment and supply management.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in operating room nursing or surgical settings.
- Knowledge of anesthesia supplies and nerve block procedures.
- Experience with patient transfers and postoperative care in PACU.
