Key Responsibilities
- Float between departments and/or local locations within 20 miles as needed.
- Assess all triage patients greater than 20 weeks gestation using obstetric triage acuity tools.
- Conduct labor assessment, fetal evaluation, and monitor for signs of labor, preeclampsia, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, preterm labor, vaginal bleeding, and critical conditions.
- Stabilize patients with emergency medical conditions for delivery or transfer to higher levels of care.
- Provide labor care, including evaluation, administration of medications (e.g., Pitocin, magestrate, hemabate, magnesium sulfate, terbutaline, antihypertensives, insulin), and preparation for delivery.
- Assist with immediate stabilization and assessment of newborns, medication administration, and preparation for cesarean or emergency delivery.
- Postpartum and newborn care, including assessments, medication administration, newborn procedures, stabilization for transport, and care for critically ill or opiate-withdrawn infants.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of current labor and delivery nursing experience.
- Valid nursing license in New Mexico or a Compact State.
- BLS certification (must be through AHA, American Health and Safety, or Red Cross).
- NRP certification.
- AWHONN Intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certification.
- Ability to pass BCA testing during the first week of assignment.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- EPIC electronic health record experience (training available onsite).
