Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily husbandry care and maintenance for research animals and their housing facilities in accordance with established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
- Monitor animal health and well-being, reporting signs of illness immediately to the supervisor.
- Complete required documentation, including recording environmental parameters, cage notifications, and room maintenance logs.
- Operate specialized equipment such as bio-safety cabinets, animal transfer stations, and sterilization tools to ensure proper animal care and facility sanitation.
- Assist with housing and caring for newly arrived animal colonies, including large animals such as pigs, dogs, and sheep.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitization of animal housing areas, including floors, walls, and large animal pens, following standard procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with husbandry and care in a research or laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of animal housing, sanitation, and health monitoring.
- Ability to operate sterilization and specialized equipment.
- Attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills.
- Ability to follow established safety and regulatory procedures.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Previous experience working with laboratory animals in a biomedical research environment.
- Familiarity with autoclaving, cage washing, and bio-safety protocols.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards such as AAALAC guidelines.
