Key Responsibilities
- Provide culturally relevant crisis intervention services in a hospital emergency setting for individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, substance, and/or mental disorders.
- Assess individuals in crisis to determine the most appropriate level of care, including involuntary psychiatric holds as per Alaska Statutes.
- Coordinate care with external agencies and hospitals to facilitate higher levels of treatment when necessary.
- Support and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and discharge planners.
- Document all services accurately within the electronic health record in compliance with policies and regulatory standards.
- Utilize trauma-informed care principles in all patient interactions and case management.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Two or more years of experience in behavioral health, mental health, or substance use treatment.
- Knowledge of behavioral health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Ability to assess risk for suicide, self-harm, or harm to others, and develop safety plans.
- Experience with involuntary holds and compliance with Alaska’s mental health statutes.
- Strong documentation skills in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
- Experience working in hospital or crisis intervention settings.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and evidence-based intervention techniques.
- Familiarity with federal and state reporting and compliance requirements.
