Contract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts | Onsite | 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general medical and surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease), GI conditions (pancreatitis, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel disease), infections (pneumonia, sepsis, cellulitis, C-diff), neurological conditions (stroke, TBI, dementia), and mental health disorders
- Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and maintain inter-professional communication throughout the care continuum
- Utilize and manage clinical equipment including Epic EHR, Pyxis machines, Hospira IV pumps, AccuCheck blood glucose monitors, wound vacs, feeding pumps, feeding tubes, chest tubes, heating/cooling pads, SCDs, and telemetry monitoring
- Manage heparin and insulin drips and oversee IV therapy for assigned patients; maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6
- Support patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation)
- Float to other medical units as needed based on census and staffing demands
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care setting
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical experience at a large hospital (600+ beds)
- Active Indiana State RN license or compact RN license (effective as of 7/1/2020)
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
- Demonstrated skills in assessments, care planning, IV therapy management, wound vacs, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and drip management
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience floating across multiple medical units in a large hospital environment
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and VTE prevention protocols
- Experience caring for patients with complex, multi-system diagnoses in a high-acuity setting
