Registered Nurse – Orthopedic / Med-Surg Overflow

Contract | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | 3x12-hour shifts | 36 or 48 hours per week available | Every other weekend required | Float required within scope

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on an orthopedic and med-surg overflow unit serving adult patients (18+) who have undergone bone and joint reconstructive surgery, joint replacement, orthopedic trauma surgery, or sports injury treatment
• Operate under a team nursing model with typical patient ratios of 1:4, occasionally flexing to 1:5
• Monitor patients via remote telemetry with off-unit tech support
• Administer and manage IV medications including Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Argatroban, Amiodarone, and Dopamine (renal perfusion only)
• Manage orthopedic-specific equipment including CPMs, Orthopat, Constavac, Hemovac, wound vacs, and traction devices
• Float within scope to other units as needed to meet facility staffing needs

Required Qualifications

• Active WV or Compact RN license (pending license accepted for submission)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Minimum 1 year of orthopedic or relevant in-specialty experience
• BLS certification (American Heart Association)
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and IV insertion
• Permanent address greater than 100 miles from the facility (candidates 75–100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• ACLS and/or NIH stroke scale certification (American Heart Association preferred)
• Experience with Cerner electronic health records
• Familiarity with orthopedic post-surgical care including wound management and traction devices
