Key Responsibilities

• Identify, accession, and process all tissue specimens received in anatomic pathology, maintaining accurate patient identification and demographic data throughout all handling procedures.
• Assist pathologists with gross examination of tissue specimens, including providing labeled tissue cassettes, loading and operating tissue processors, and offering additional support as requested.
• Process tissue blocks, cut sections, perform staining, and deliver prepared slides to the pathologist in a timely manner for daily microscopic examination.
• Assist with frozen section preparation immediately upon specimen receipt in the histology department.
• Perform special histochemical staining procedures within timeframes specified by the pathologist to support timely diagnostic reporting.
• Properly index, file, store, and manage retrieval of tissue slides and blocks, ensuring appropriate retention schedules are followed.

Required Qualifications

• Certification as a Histotechnologist through ASCP (HT) or equivalent certification required.
• Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of histological procedures accurately and efficiently under supervisory direction.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining absolute certainty of patient identification throughout all specimen processing steps.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience in an anatomic pathology or histology laboratory setting.
• Familiarity with special histochemical staining techniques and frozen section preparation.
• Experience coordinating specimen preparation for external laboratory consultation or processing.
