1NW is an adaptable unit with 3 observation beds, 5 intermediate adaptable beds, and 6 ICU adaptable beds. The unit functions fully as a flex unit and changes with the community illness needs. The medical type of patients include: pneumonia, DKA, chest pain, sepsis.
Equipment utilized in the unit/dept.
We use EPIC EMR and MAR scanning, Omnicell for medication dispensing, centralized vital signs monitoring.
COVID patients are using bipap and high flow nasal canula.
Required skills and minimum years of experience.
Starting IVs, general nursing assessment, foley catheters. 1-3 years of experience.
Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required.
Active ND or Compact RN license; BLS and ACLS required. (must be AHA)
Shift or schedule requirements
12 hour day/night rotating shifts
Floating to other units/departments.
May float to other Med-Surg and overflow areas but will go into the same rotation for floating as the permanent staff

There are 14 rooms. 11 of the rooms are flexible with bed number, currently can have dual occupancy for COVID patients. Non COVID patient will have single room occupancy.

Variable to meet the patient needs. Intermediate 1:3, COVID 1:3, Medical/Surgical 1:5

Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.
Approximately a week with the Education team which includes electronic EMR charting. Usually will have 2-3 12 shifts with a preceptor on the unit.
