Will work the Medsurg (or like units) between the Parkview Regional Medical Center and Randallia hospital locations in Fort Wayne.

General Medical and surgical units – We see a diverse population of patients with varying diagnoses including chronic illnesses such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end stage renal disease. We manage GI issues such as pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases. We also manage infections such as pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, c-diff, etc. We may also care for patients with neurological issues such as stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries. We also have patients with mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, etc. Our patients will undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thora and paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).

General job duties. Types of procedures required.
General Medical Surgical nursing care. Skills and tasks required would be assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, utilization of the EHR, IV pumps, wound vacs, heat/cooling pads, feeding pumps, feeding tubes, chest tubes, management of heparin and insulin drips, IV therapy management.

Equipment utilized in the unit/dept.
Epic electronic record, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose, hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads, telemetry monitoring

Required skills and minimum years of experience.
Minimum one year Med Surg hospital experience. Two years is preferred.

Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
BLS, IN State or compact RN license

Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?) 12-hour shifts, 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks

Medsurg RN’s will float to areas in greatest need. Patient ratios are 1:5.

BLS and IN license (or compact license as of 7/1/20).

Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs

Would only float to other medical units.

We require supplemental staff to go through our Jump Start orientation, this includes 1 day of general hospital orientation, then approximately 5 days of nursing orientation, Epic classes are included.
