School LPN
Primary Purpose:
To promote and protect the health and well-being of students, enabling them to fully participate in learning by addressing medical needs, managing chronic conditions, preventing the spread of illness, and responding to health-related concerns during the school day. The LPN will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or school administration to support the health needs of students and help maintain a safe, healthy school environment.

Qualifications:

Valid GA LPN License or Compact license issued by the state

BLS Certification required

Previous experience in pediatric, school, or community health nursing preferred, but not required

Knowledge of common childhood illnesses, health protocols, and state/national health guidelines

Ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and families
Skills & Experience:
-
Strong clinical skills in administering medications, performing basic health assessments, and providing first aid within LPN scope of practice
-
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff
-
Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines
-
Ability to maintain accurate and detailed health records
-
Ability to respond calmly and effectively in urgent or emergency situations
-
Strong organizational and time management skills
-
Professionalism and strong interpersonal skills in a school setting
Responsibilities:
-
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a licensed physician and delegated per RN supervision
-
Provide first aid and assist with emergency care during school hours
-
Assist with health screenings for vision, hearing, and other routine checks; report concerns to supervising RN and administration
-
Support the implementation of Individual Health Plans (IHPs) for students with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or allergies
-
Maintain accurate and compliant student health records

Reinforce health education related to hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention
-
Collaborate with school staff to promote a safe and healthy environment
-
Serve as a liaison between parents, supervising RN, and school personnel regarding student health needs

Participate in emergency drills (fire, tornado, lockdown, etc.)

Engage in professional development to stay current on best practices
Work Environment:
-
School-based setting, primarily in the health office, with occasional travel between schools if required
-
Physical demands may include standing, sitting, walking for extended periods, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.)

Must be able to manage interruptions, stressful situations, and emotionally distressed students with professionalism

Must be comfortable working with medically fragile children; lifting and toileting assistance may be required
