Contract | Days | 4x10-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 5:15 PM) | On-site | Weekend requirement: 1 per month | On-call requirement: approximately 1 per week
Key Responsibilities
- Provide perioperative nursing care across multiple surgical service lines in a 23-room OR at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care facility
- Perform scrub and/or circulating duties for a broad range of cases including general surgery, orthopedics, neurology, urology, plastics, trauma, bariatrics, and transplant/organ donation
- Administer blood products, manage specimen handling and labeling, and ensure adherence to Universal Protocol (Time Out) procedures
- Respond to emergent situations including code response, malignant hyperthermia, latex allergy protocols, and fire safety events
- Operate and manage specialized equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, and Hana tables
- Maintain compliance with infection control, radiation safety, and urinary bladder catheterization standards
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room RN experience required; prior travel experience required (first-timers not accepted)
- Active Illinois RN license in hand or actively in the application process at time of submission
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI cards not accepted)
- Level I Trauma experience required
- General OR and Trauma case experience required, including experience with the full range of general surgery, orthopedic, neurological, urological, plastic surgery, bariatric, and trauma cases listed in the position details
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (local candidates are not accepted for this specialty)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- CNOR certification preferred
- Experience with Cerner electronic health records preferred
- Familiarity with microvascular/free flap plastic surgery cases a plus
