Contract | Days | 4x10-hour shifts (7:00–17:30) | Onsite | Every other weekend required | On-call required as needed
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in an acute care inpatient dialysis unit with an average daily census of 3–6 patients in a 2-room, 4-bed unit
- Initiate, set up, and manage hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments including cannulation of AV grafts, AV fistulas, and tunneled/non-tunneled catheters
- Administer blood/blood products, Mannitol, albumin, and 23.4% NaCl during dialysis treatment as indicated
- Monitor and troubleshoot machine alarms including arterial pressure, blood leak detector, conductivity, and venous pressure alarms
- Manage acute symptom presentations including hypotension, fluid overload, hyperkalemia, cardiac arrest, seizures, and other dialysis-related complications
- Participate in on-call rotation including overnight call coverage approximately 2–3 times per schedule with a 1-hour response time requirement for emergent cases
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license required at time of application
- Minimum 1 year of dialysis nursing experience required
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
- Demonstrated experience with acute renal failure, acute kidney injury, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis
- Proficiency with dialysis equipment including B. Braun Dialog machine
- Experience with post-dialysis treatment access care, infection control, airway management, and blood glucose monitoring
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification preferred
- Experience with Cerner electronic health records
- Background in teaching hospital, community hospital, or Level I or II Trauma center settings
