Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient abilities and limitations by reviewing medical records and physician notes; administer pre-exercise testing interviews and prepare patients for graded exercise testing.
- Record, analyze, and interpret exercise test results; prepare exercise prescriptions as directed by the overseeing Cardiac-Pulmonary Physician.
- Administer therapeutic exercises designed to improve functional capacity, exercise tolerance, muscle strength and endurance, and coordination for rehabilitating cardiac-pulmonary patients.
- Evaluate patients' hemodynamic and symptomatic responses to exercise and assess appropriateness relative to exercise intensity and endurance.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to design, implement, supervise, and evaluate outcomes for exercise services within the cardiac rehabilitation program.
- Document treatment sessions including vital signs, response to therapy, side effects, and patient/family teaching; complete billing within 24 hours of service.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology or Exercise and Sports Science with at least one (1) year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of exercise therapy for coronary disease; or background in Respiratory Therapy or Nursing (RN) with experience in cardiac-pulmonary diseases and care.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- ACSM certification required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Certification as an Exercise Specialist (ACSM or equivalent).
- Experience assisting in cardiac-pulmonary rehabilitation program development, including coordination of daily operations and long-term program planning.
