Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 10-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit, including immediate post-operative open heart recovery patients from admission through discharge
- Care for hemodynamically stable and unstable patients across a broad scope of diagnoses including pre and post PCI, pacemaker, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, and sepsis
- Operate advanced medical equipment including central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, A-lines, continuous bladder irrigation, multiple IV pumps, and short-term ventilatory support (noninvasive and invasive)
- Perform skilled cardiac telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation, with the ability to recognize and intervene in deteriorating patient conditions
- Assess and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision; act as a clinical leader and assist with precepting staff
- Collaborate with providers, charge nurses, LPNs, CNAs, and allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural patient support
Required Qualifications
- Current State of Montana RN licensure required
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Recent open heart recovery nursing experience required — must be trained to care for immediate post-operative open heart patients on day one
- Recent critical care experience required
- Degree from an accredited nursing program
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior CVICU experience strongly preferred
- Advanced knowledge of critical care nursing principles and procedures
- Experience with higher-acuity cardiac patients and expanding cardiac service lines
