Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring they meet educational and behavioral objectives.
- Provide specialized instruction to students with various disabilities by adapting lesson plans, teaching strategies, and assessments.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and school personnel to support student integration and development.
- Implement behavioral management strategies to foster positive social interactions and a safe learning environment.
- Assess student progress regularly, document performance, and adjust instructional methods accordingly.
- Maintain open communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, IEP goals, and additional support needs.
- Stay current with best practices, legal requirements, and participate in ongoing professional development.
- Organize classroom resources and create an inclusive environment that promotes respect and a love of learning.
- Advocate for students’ rights and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local special education regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid Georgia teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with diverse disabilities (e.g., autism, learning disabilities, developmental delays).
- Knowledge of special education laws, techniques, and best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and client documentation effectively.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting students with special needs.
- Ability to assist with physical and mobility needs as specified in IEPs.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Previous experience working in educational settings with students with special needs.
- Ability to lift and move classroom materials and equipment as needed.
Work Environment
Classroom setting with potential for outdoor or therapy room interactions. Frequent collaboration with parents, staff, and administrators.
