Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients according to prescribed protocols, ensuring proper dosage and injection technique to optimize imaging results.
  • Operate gamma cameras and other specialized nuclear medicine imaging equipment to capture and process images of radioactive tracers within the patient's body.
  • Analyze nuclear medicine images to identify abnormalities, collaborating with radiologists and physicians to interpret findings and support diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Prepare patients for nuclear medicine procedures by explaining the process, obtaining medical histories, and providing compassionate care and support throughout imaging.
  • Adhere to strict radiation safety protocols, maintain accurate records of radiation doses administered, and monitor radiation levels in work areas.
  • Perform routine quality control checks on imaging equipment, maintain detailed procedural records, and generate accurate reports for inclusion in patient medical records.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), an institution accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT), or graduation from a military Nuclear Medicine Program.
  • Active license through the Kentucky Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy.
  • Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in nuclear medicine.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Completion of a Basic Dysrhythmia, Arrhythmia, or ECG course.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear medicine principles, radiopharmaceuticals, imaging techniques, and radiation safety practices.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine technology or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
