Key Responsibilities

  • Assist during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation to the surgical team as needed.
  • Apply expertise in sterile and aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and use of surgical tools and technologies in performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in accordance with AORN standards.
  • Monitor the sterile field for contamination or integrity concerns and initiate or communicate the need for corrective action under supervision.
  • Inspect all items for proper packaging, processing, seal integrity, sterile indicators, and expiration dates to ensure a safe operative environment.
  • Assist the perioperative team with patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation; clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Participate fully in the Time Out Process, including Briefings and Debriefings, and maintain professional communication with the perioperative team.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a Certified or Licensed Surgical Technologist program.
  • Active Surgical Technologist license in the state of Colorado.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Ability to obtain computer skills necessary for online learning, forms, and policy access within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Demonstrated competency or progression toward competency in Tier 1 surgical cases.
  • Familiarity with current surgical technologies, instrumentation, and evolving perioperative procedures.
