Occupational Therapist
Primary Purpose: Serve students with occupational therapy needs in special education and general education settings, across elementary and middle school grades. The position is focused on helping students make progress toward their occupational therapy IEP goals. Demonstrate a strong commitment to student progress and approach the work with cultural competency and a commitment to social justice.
Position Details:
- Location: Lynn, MA
- Pay: Starting at $55/hr (Contract), Starting Salary at $65,000 (Direct Hire) - based on years of experience
- Schedule: May vary based on location
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
- Massachusetts OT license thru Massachusetts Board of Allied Health (DPH) required
- NBCOT certification required
- In-Person Only
- Bilingual preferred
- Relevant school-based occupational therapy experience and knowledge of IEPs/504s and applicable education requirements
Skills:
- School-based occupational therapy experience
- Knowledge of: IEPs, 504 plans, relevant federal education laws, Massachusetts education laws and regulations, AOTA guideline,
- Computer literacy and basic Google Suite familiarity
Responsibilities:
- Create occupational therapy session plans.
- Report quarterly progress for students with IEPs.
- Collect data during occupational therapy sessions.
- Conduct individual occupational therapy sessions.
- Conduct small-group occupational therapy sessions.
- Support students with self-care skills in connection with their occupational therapy goals.
- Consult regarding students in both general education and special education settings when requested.
- Complete student occupational therapy evaluations
- Acting with integrity, leading with humanity, practicing self-awareness and critical consciousness, taking personal responsibility, and engaging productively.
- Participate in regional professional development and community events as required.
- Collect and interpret data.
- Evaluate information, reason through problems, establish facts, draw conclusions, and make timely decisions based on school needs.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, flexibility, and emotional intelligence when working with students with diverse needs.
- Use interpersonal and self-management skills to support students' behavioral and emotional needs.
- Help maintain a safe and inclusive environment.
- Build relationships and manage conflicts with students, staff, and caregivers.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, families, and others through in-person communication, written communication, group presentations, and virtual platforms.
- Move into different physical positions, including kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead.
- Periodically lift or carry 20 pounds of materials or supplies.
- Physically restrain a student when necessary to prevent the student from harming themselves or others during an emergency.
- Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements.
