Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 63-bed surgical acute unit, including post-operative patients, trauma, and overflow medical patients
• Perform wound care and dressing changes, IV therapy, pain management, and management of drains, nasogastric tubes, central lines, and TPN
• Manage inhalers and place patients on CPAP as needed; respiratory therapy manages nebulizers and ventilator equipment is not used on this unit
• Collaborate with PCTs who assist with vitals, accuchecks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation; nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 5–6 patients per RN on nights
• Float to units with equivalent experience level as needed; travelers are first to float
• Adhere to a drug-free campus policy, including a negative drug screen for all panels prior to start

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates
• Must comply with a drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in post-operative patient care
• Strong critical thinking skills and willingness to ask for help when needed
• Good bedside manner and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring (Phillips monitors used on unit; strip reading handled by central monitor techs)
