Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Primary Purpose: Comprehensive role focused on supporting students with visual impairments. Provides specialized instruction and services to students from early childhood through high school.

Position Details:

  • Location: Illinois
  • Pay: Starting at $44
  • Hours: May vary based on location
  • Schedule: 2-3 days/wk

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Deaf Education or related field or beyond
  • Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator's License (PEL) with a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement Pre-K-12.
  • Dual Certification: TVI and Orientation & Mobility Specialist endorsements are often preferred.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with IEP development and assistive technologies.
  • Proficiency with school-based technology and office equipment, including computers and specialized software applications like Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Responsibilities:

  • Direct Instruction: Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, including teaching Braille, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology, in alignment with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with classroom teachers, administrators, and other specialists to develop and implement strategies that support the academic and social progress of students with visual impairments.
  • IEP Participation: Contribute to IEP meetings by providing expertise on accommodations, assistive technology, and instructional modifications to ensure students receive appropriate support.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of services provided, assessments conducted, and interventions implemented, ensuring compliance with IEP goals and state regulations.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in visual impairment education, assistive technology, and special education
