Respiratory Therapist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Respiratory Therapist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide expert respiratory care to patients of all ages, from pediatric to adult populations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer medical gases, medications, airway clearance, mechanical ventilation, and other respiratory modalities as ordered by a licensed healthcare professional. • Monitor levels of supplies and equipment for department and patient care areas. • Apply theoretical knowledge to care for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients, and other members of the healthcare team. • Demonstrate competence in respiratory skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking. • Perform life-sustaining interventions during emergent situations, including Rapid Response calls and Blue Alerts. • Initiate and manage mechanical ventilation, including high-frequency ventilation and advanced modes of ventilation. • Administer aerosolized medication, deliver medical-grade oxygen or air, and initiate and maintain mechanical ventilators. • Assess patients to evaluate effectiveness of therapy and recommend changes in therapy based on patient response. • Provide documentation of interventions and responses in accordance with regulatory requirements and TJC and Medicare guidelines. • Round with the interdisciplinary team in ICUs and intermediate units.

Requirements:

• Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care. • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the State of Illinois and current National Board of Respiratory Care credentials if credentialed after July 1, 2002. • Basic electronic medical record documentation skills. • Current American Heart BLS card. • Successful completion of a respiratory therapy program from an accredited school.

Working Conditions:

• Ability to lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds on a daily basis. • Ability to stand for up to 4 hours at a time. • Ability to stoop and bend, reach, grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity, and color vision. • Ability to push and/or pull respiratory equipment, supply carts, gurneys, beds, wheelchairs, and/or computer carts exerting an initial force of up to 35 pounds and exerting up to 25 pounds of force to sustain movement on a daily basis. • Ability to lift and position patients on a daily basis. • Proofreading and checking documents for accuracy on a daily basis.
