Key Responsibilities

• Independently plan and implement routine nursing care for obstetrics and gynecology patients in predictable situations, adhering to standards.
• Perform procedures related to OB/GYN patient care, recognizing and responding to changing patient conditions with clinical judgment.
• Support patient advocacy by representing patient and family concerns, ensuring ethical and culturally sensitive care.
• Provide compassionate, individualized care that maintains patient privacy and promotes a therapeutic environment.
• Facilitate patient and family education, assessing readiness and adapting teaching accordingly.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes and support unit goals.
• Apply systems thinking to evaluate care processes, resource management, and quality improvement opportunities.
• Respect and incorporate patient diversity, cultural practices, and individual needs into care planning.
• Continuously question and evaluate practice to improve outcomes, incorporating new knowledge and adhering to facility policies.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience.
• Valid BLS and NRP certifications.
• Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Alaska.
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and float within departments as needed.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Previous experience in OB/GYN or maternity care.
• Familiarity with hospital equipment such as fetal monitors, IV pumps, and electric beds.
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Note: This position involves providing care for approximately 24-30 births per month, with a standard orientation program. The OB department requires staff to wear hunter green scrubs. Candidates must be comfortable with floating to similar units as needed.
