Job Details

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – School Nurse

Primary Purpose:
To support students’ health, safety, and readiness to learn by providing medical care, health monitoring, and assistance with daily health needs. The LPN collaborates with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to ensure students receive appropriate care and can fully participate in the educational environment.

Qualifications

  • Current Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.

  • CPR and First Aid certification required.

  • Experience in pediatric, school-based, or community health settings preferred.

  • Knowledge of chronic health conditions, medication administration, and emergency care procedures in a school environment.

  • Familiarity with documentation requirements and health protocols within educational settings.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, school staff, and healthcare providers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, medication administration, and management of chronic health conditions.

  • Monitor students with medical needs and implement care plans as directed by the Registered Nurse (RN) or physician.

  • Assist with screenings (vision, hearing, etc.) and maintain accurate health records.

  • Respond to medical emergencies and follow district protocols for crisis situations.

  • Communicate health-related information to families, administrators, teachers, and support staff in compliance with confidentiality regulations.

  • Support students with disabilities by implementing health-related accommodations outlined in IEPs, 504 Plans, and health plans.

  • Promote a safe and healthy school environment following district, state, and federal guidelines.

  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure equipment is properly stored and used.

  • Attend trainings, workshops, and professional development related to school health services.

  • Demonstrate initiative, ethical conduct, professionalism, and positive interpersonal skills in all duties.

  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality, follow dress code, and uphold confidentiality.

  • Keep supervisor informed of potential issues or unusual health concerns.

  • Prepare and submit required reports in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Support district goals and exhibit teamwork in all interactions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned that support student health and district objectives.


Work Environment:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently to move objects or assist students.
