Key Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient holding support within the Emergency Department for patients awaiting inpatient beds.
  • Monitor and manage adult medical/surgical patients, including PCU-level cases, utilizing telemetry and other monitoring systems.
  • Take on Medical Surgical and Telemetry cases, float to ED and MedSurg units as needed, adhering to patient safety protocols.
  • Handle various procedures such as dysrhythmia interpretation, blood product administration, IV and PICC line management, wound care, and airway management.
  • Comply with isolation precautions and utilize standard equipment including cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other critical systems.
  • Participate in storm or disaster response as required, working with hospital teams during emergencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Active and current NC or Compact RN license, in hand at start date.
  • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, with specific expertise in Medical Surgical and Telemetry units.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation, telemetry monitoring (on-site and remote), and use of rapid response teams.
  • Ability to perform colostomy care, feeding tube management, blood draws, IV starts, and handle various invasive lines.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • NIHSS certification.
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols, pre- and post-hemodialysis management, neuro or orthopedic trauma, wound vacs, and total joint replacements.
  • Knowledge of neuro, spinal cord, traumatic brain injury, and complex patient care procedures.

Additional Notes

  • Shift: Night (3x12 hours), 18:45 – 07:15.
  • RTO: Up to 7 days approved; must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
  • Must pass EKG testing within 48 hours of start.
  • Floating within the hospital and to nearby facilities may be required.
  • Compliance with travel and rehire policies is necessary.
  • Successful candidates should be comfortable working in high turnover, high acuity settings, with prior charting experience on systems like Epic.
