Schedule / Job Type
- Full-time, 13-week contract, Night shift (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), working 3 shifts per week, with 12.5-hour shifts
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to a diverse cardiovascular and vascular surgery patient population in a stepdown unit.
- Monitor and assess patients’ conditions, including post-operative cardiac surgery, thoracic, and vascular cases.
- Manage intravenous medications, epidural catheters, chest tubes, and other complex procedures.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
- Document patient care accurately in electronic medical records using Cerner EMR.
- Assist with patient education and discharge planning as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or multi-state compact license.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent RN experience in telemetry, stepdown, or med-surg units.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications.
- Experience with post-cardiac surgery and vascular procedures is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work 12.5-hour night shifts and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in cardiac or vascular surgery units, including open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, and fem-pop bypass.
- Experience with CVICU or similar critical care settings.
- Familiarity with CICARE or Cerner EMR systems.
