Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality obstetric and postpartum nursing care for high-acuity, high-volume patients.
- Manage labor and delivery processes, including routine and emergency procedures such as Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage.
- Assist with various special procedures, including sterile vaginal exams, newborn assessments, and immediate postpartum care.
- Float between units as needed, providing support for high patient census and dual labor assignments.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team using systems like Epic, PYXIS, and SBAR to deliver coordinated patient care.
- Monitor obstetrical triage and outpatient procedures, including fetal surveillance and medication administration.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of labor and delivery experience; 3+ years preferred for high-volume settings (>300 births/month).
- Valid RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state, in-hand at start.
- BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP certifications required.
- Experience circulating in OR, performing sterile vaginal exams, and caring for immediate newborns.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with double labor assignments as a regular occurrence.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- First-time traveler welcome with experience in high-volume maternity units.
- Experience with Epic electronic charting system.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency with maternal/neonatal special procedures.
