Licensed Practical Nurse
Primary Purpose:

To support the School Registered Nurse (RN) in providing health services to students to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment. The LPN assists with first aid, medication administration, health screenings, documentation, and daily health room operations while working under the supervision of the School RN and in accordance with Georgia state regulations and school policies. This role helps maintain student health records, assists with state-mandated screenings, and provides routine nursing care while supporting students with chronic health conditions.

Pay: Starting at $33/hr

Schedule: M-F 8a-2p = 25hrs/wk

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program.

  • Must hold a current and active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Georgia issued by the Georgia Board of Nursing

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.

  • Medication administration training consistent with Georgia Department of Education guidelines.

  • Previous school nursing or pediatric experience preferred.

  • Experience working with students with special health needs or disabilities preferred.

  • Knowledge of school health procedures and student health regulations.

Skills & Experience

  • Ability to safely and accurately administer medications.

  • Strong clinical assessment and first aid skills.

  • Strong documentation and charting skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with children, families, and school staff.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to respond appropriately in medical emergencies.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.

Responsibilities

Student Health Care

  • Provide first aid and basic medical care for student illnesses and injuries.

  • Obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure when appropriate.

  • Administer daily and emergency medications according to physician orders, school policy, and Georgia medication administration guidelines.

  • Monitor students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, or allergies.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) under the direction of the School RN.

Health Room Operations

  • Assist with daily operations of the school clinic/health room.

  • Maintain accurate health documentation and charting in student health records or electronic systems.

  • Ensure confidentiality of student health information in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.

  • Ensure clinic supplies are stocked and organized.

Screenings and Preventive Health

  • Assist the School RN with state-required health screenings, including:

    • Hearing screenings

    • Vision screenings

    • Other screenings required by the Georgia Department of Public Health or local school district.

Medication Administration

  • Safely administer medications according to physician orders and parental authorization.

  • Maintain medication logs and documentation.

  • Monitor students for medication side effects and report concerns to the supervising RN.

Student Support and Safety

  • Provide health support for school activities and field trips as assigned.

  • Assist in responding to medical emergencies on campus.

  • Support health education initiatives as directed by the RN.

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the School RN, administrators, teachers, counselors, and special education staff.

  • Communicate student health concerns to the RN and appropriate school personnel.

  • Support students with special health needs or disabilities.

Work Environment:

  • School-based health clinic or health room.

  • May involve exposure to communicable illnesses common in school environments.

  • Physical demands may include moving throughout school buildings and campus and assisting or lifting students when necessary.

  • Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
