Special Education Lead ELA Teacher
Primary Purpose: Provide specialized instruction and support to scholars with identified learning differences, disabilities, or unique learning needs. Work to ensure each scholar receives an inclusive, supportive, and academically rigorous education in preparing scholars academically, socially, and emotionally.

Qualifications:
- Valid GA teaching certification in Special Education (K-12) required.
- Experience managing a special education caseload
- Strong background in ELA, literacy, or related field.
Skills & Experience:
- Deep knowledge of reading instruction, writing pedagogy, and literature.
- Prior experience working with middle school students with diverse learning needs
- Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Responsibilities:
Classroom Instruction
- Teach ELA (reading, writing, grammar, literature) using a classical education model (emphasis on great books, phonics, and writing).
- Deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Maintain strong classroom culture and high behavioral expectations.
- Lead development and refinement of ELA curriculum and unit plans.
- Ensure vertical alignment across grade levels.
- Support implementation of classical literacy components (e.g., Socratic discussion, text analysis).
- Collaborate with school leadership on instructional priorities.
- Mentor and coach ELA teachers (especially newer teachers).
- Lead professional development sessions.
- Conduct observations and provide feedback.
- Model effective teaching practices.
- Analyze student performance data (assessments, reading levels, writing samples).
- Adjust curriculum and instruction based on data.
- Lead data meetings and guide instructional decisions.
- Serve as part of the instructional leadership team.
- Help uphold the school’s mission of classical, character-based education.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress.
