Special Education Teacher

Primary Purpose: Special Education Teachers are our primary classroom facilitators, and report to the the Assistant Principal for Scholar Support. Special Education teacher provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. The self-contained multi-disability classroom is a 12:1:1 classroom ratio, supported by an Assistant Teacher.

Position Details:

• Location: Decatur, GA
• Pay: Starting at $41
• Schedule: 7:30a-3:30 - 7.5hrs/daily

Qualifications:

• Valid GA teaching certification in Special Education and Adaptive Certification required.
• Valid GA teaching certification in Special Education required.
• Minimum three years previous special education teaching experience preferred.
• Experience working with students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, developmental delays, etc.)

Skills & Experience:

• Experience in K-4 and/or inclusive of culturally-relevant project-based learning.
• Experience working with students with Autism and moderate intellectual disabilities.
• Strong classroom management and behavioral support skills.

Responsibilities:

• Teach K-4th grade students with moderate intellectual disabilities and Autism in a self-contained classroom setting.
• Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to meet student ability levels.
• Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
•  Manage classroom behavior and support students with potty training and behavioral challenges.

Work Environment:

• Classroom and school environment, which may include both individual and group instruction.
• May involve working with students in various settings (classroom, therapy rooms, or outdoor spaces).
• Frequent interaction with parents, staff, and administrators.
