Contract | Full-Time | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on an acute care medical-surgical unit with a census of approximately 22–26 patients, managing a wide range of medical diagnoses including GI bleeds, sepsis, CHF, DVT, pulmonary embolisms, cellulitis, and comfort care measures
- Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 5–6:1 on night shift, delivering safe and effective care in a mix of private and semi-private room settings
- Titrate Heparin drips as required and manage patients with oxygen requirements up to 6L NC, as well as stable BiPAP/CPAP
- Monitor telemetry via a house-wide remote telemetry department using Philips equipment, and interpret findings as needed
- Perform IV starts and collaborate with unit resources and inpatient phlebotomy team as appropriate
- Float to other medical-surgical like units as needed; participate in rotating weekend and holiday schedules
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience in a medical-surgical or acute care inpatient setting
- Ability to titrate Heparin drips
- Must be able to pass a drug screen; placement is on a drug-free campus
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and Philips monitoring equipment
- Experience caring for patients with complex medical diagnoses such as sepsis, CHF, DVT, or pulmonary embolism
- Proficiency with IV insertion and peripheral access techniques
