Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Shift work required, including nights and weekend call to support 24-hour laboratory coverage
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all levels of laboratory testing, including CLIA-defined high complexity testing, across patient populations ranging from infants to geriatric patients; evaluate, judge, and interpret test results to ensure accuracy
- Provide specialized expertise in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology, and infectious disease safety; perform patient specimen testing and ensure sample suitability
- Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments; oversee quality control programs, review Levey-Jennings charts, and prepare the laboratory for regulatory inspections
- Write and maintain departmental policies and procedures using CLSI format; coordinate procedure manual reviews, updates, and distribution
- Provide limited test utilization and interpretation guidance to medical and nursing staff; refer advanced clinical questions to the Laboratory Medical Director
- Train new employees and laboratory students; assist the laboratory manager with competency evaluations and process improvement activities
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field (progressively responsible experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis)
- Minimum of one (1) year of progressive clinical laboratory experience or one (1) year of hospital internship subsequent to degree
- Active certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (AMT), or equivalent certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency
- Knowledge of CLIA, Joint Commission, CAP, and other applicable regulatory requirements
- Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and various laboratory software applications
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in a hospital-based laboratory setting with exposure to a broad range of laboratory disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot instrumentation and resolve discrepant or inconsistent patient results
- Experience assisting with CAP/CLIA compliance and laboratory inspection preparation
