Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain the sterile field; pass instruments and sutures to the physician and assist as directed during surgical procedures.
- Prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case using physician preference cards.
- Prepare patient skin for surgery, position patients according to procedure type, and transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite.
- Monitor and control the surgical environment, including traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures.
- Identify and care for biological specimens and adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions in all patient care situations.
- Maintain and update physician preference cards and demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or accredited LVN/LPN program required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential or active LVN/LPN license required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Minimum of 1 year of surgical technologist experience required.
- Ability and willingness to fulfill on-call and floating requirements.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- 2 or more years of surgical technologist experience preferred.
- Ability to proficiently scrub in 3 or more specialty areas such as Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, or Robotics highly preferred.
