Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit with an Oncology patient population, including administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection), and management of complex diagnoses such as sepsis, AKI, malignant neoplasms, and diabetic foot ulcers
- Perform and manage specialized clinical skills including colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), wound care/wound vac, and surgical drain management
- Administer and monitor high-risk medications including heparin drips and insulin; apply isolation precautions and non-invasive airway management as indicated
- Float to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED, as required based on census needs
- Participate in every other weekend rotation and fulfill on-call obligations for pre-scheduled shifts that are called off
- Respond and report to work as assigned during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, disasters, or storm/hurricane team activations
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an inpatient setting
- Demonstrated proficiency in Medical Surgical nursing skills including peripheral line care, PICC line management, chest tubes, wound vac, surgical drains, and isolation precautions
- Ability to administer chemotherapy/biotherapy if required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
- Proficiency with or ability to learn PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR communication systems
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
- Charge nurse experience
