Key Responsibilities

• Serve as primary scrub person for operative procedures, including setting up cases, ensuring instruments and supplies are available, and maintaining a sterile field throughout.
• Pass instruments, assist the physician as directed, perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts, and assist with draping and patient positioning during surgical cases.
• Apply electrocautery to clamps on bleeders and cut suture material under direct surgeon supervision as requested.
• Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variances from standard operating procedures.
• Perform post-case duties including gross decontamination of instruments, breakdown for Central Sterile Processing, suite disinfection, and restocking the room for the next procedure.
• Complete all mandatory hospital education, maintain compliance with HR and Employee Health requirements, and adhere to all safe OR practices including annual age-specific competency assessments.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of seven (7) years of surgical technologist experience.
• Technical Diploma from an accredited Surgical Technologist program, or comparable military training.
• Current BLS certification.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to actively listen and collaborate with care team members.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining high standards of patient safety and sterile technique.
