Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Days (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, 3 days per week, 12-hour shifts) | Every other weekend required | Holidays based on unit needs
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Progressive Care Unit setting, managing intermediate-acuity patients requiring close monitoring
- Operate and manage BiPAP, chest tubes, and PICC lines, and independently draw patient labs
- Independently call on consults and conduct codes without reliance on a vascular access team
- Care for post-open-heart surgery patients (Day 2 or Day 3) including PAC management
- Float to ICU and other inpatient units including Med/Surg, Med/Tele, Acute/Tele, and the Emergency Department as needed
- Document and manage patient care using the EPIC electronic medical records system
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent Critical Care/ICU or Emergency Department experience
- Active Kansas RN license or valid Compact RN license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications
- Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills in high-acuity clinical environments
- Ability to independently manage codes, consults, and procedures without vascular access team support
- New graduates will not be considered
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with post-open-heart surgery patient care (Day 2 or Day 3 with PAC experience)
- Prior experience floating to Emergency Department and various inpatient unit types
- Familiarity with EPIC EMR platform
