Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (ED Holding / Float Pool)

Contract | Days | 4x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | 36–48 hours per week | Every other weekend required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in an ED inpatient holding area for adult patients awaiting inpatient bed placement, covering any medical/surgical adult diagnosis
- Manage MS/Tele-level patients as well as PCU-level patients as assigned, maintaining target ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele or 1:4 for PCU-level patients
- Float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed based on unit demands
- Perform telemetry monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and utilize Rapid Response Teams as appropriate
- Operate and document using standard unit systems including Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication
- Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Medical/Surgical or Telemetry
- Active RN license in NC or a Compact state
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and use of Rapid Response Teams
- Demonstrated skills in: colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, renal failure management, blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
Preferred Experience / Skills
- NIHSS certification; experience with CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injuries, or traumatic brain injury
- Experience with IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, accessing ports, and central line blood draws
- Orthopedic trauma, total joint replacement, and wound care/wound vac experience
- Prior travel nursing experience (not required but welcomed)
