Contract | Days | 4x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | 13–20 week contract
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
- Monitor, interpret, and manage cardiac dysrhythmias via telemetry and remote monitoring; utilize Rapid Response and Code teams as needed
- Perform and manage IV therapy including peripheral line care, PICC line management, central line blood draws, phlebotomy, and administration of blood products, heparin, insulin, and PCA
- Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, high-flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, oral suctioning, and non-invasive airway management
- Deliver wound care including wound vac management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, chest tube care, and pre/post hemodialysis management
- Float to a nearby campus as required; participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical / Telemetry RN experience
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact nursing license (pending licensure acceptable for submission)
- BLS certification (current)
- NIHSS certification (current)
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Ability to work every other weekend, a minimum of 2 of 3 major holidays, and during emergency or disaster events as assigned
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification; experience with on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI care, and IV insulin protocols
- Experience with tracheostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, accessing and managing ports, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, and pre/post thoracic surgery care
- Background in CVA management, substance withdrawal, and bariatric surgery care
- Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital experience, and proficiency with electronic documentation
