Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients prior to treatment by reviewing charts and history, performing objective measurements, and establishing individualized goals and plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Administer and direct physical therapy treatments and modalities including therapeutic exercises, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, soft tissue mobilization, gait training, balance training, and functional mobility training.
- Maintain ongoing communication with referring physicians regarding patient progress and recommend modifications to treatment plans as indicated.
- Develop and instruct patients and families on home exercise programs, ensuring understanding through return demonstrations.
- Direct and oversee Physical Therapy Assistants and Rehabilitation Assistants during treatment sessions; co-sign progress notes for PT Assistants with temporary licensure and complete discharge summaries.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient treatment records, ensure charges correlate with documentation, and uphold productivity standards.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate, Master's, Bachelor's, or Associate's Degree in Physical Therapy.
- Current New Mexico Physical Therapist licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Minimum of 1 year of physical therapy experience.
- Strong assessment, evaluation, decision-making, and time management skills.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in an outpatient physical therapy setting.
- Experience treating neuromusculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory conditions.
- Familiarity with quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives within a rehabilitation team environment.
