Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Medical Intensive Care Unit setting with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing complex diagnoses including sepsis, DKA, COPD, and heart failure
• Monitor and manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction, including arterial line management, central line care, and invasive hemodynamic monitoring
• Administer and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation, and emergency medications; perform procedural sedation administration and monitoring
• Manage ventilated patients including ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, suctioning, and interpretation of arterial blood gases
• Assist with and provide post-procedure care for central line insertion, chest tube insertion/removal, and arterial line placement
• Float to Med/Surg as needed; work every other weekend with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per contract

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience; first-time travelers not accepted
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition, CVP monitoring, IV insulin protocols, and blood product administration
• Experience with infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, phlebotomy, and recognition of infection in immunosuppressed patients
• Familiarity with Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication framework

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in Cardiovascular ICU, Neuro ICU, or Surgical ICU settings
• PICC line management, post cardiac surgery care, GI surgery experience, and thermoregulation (hypothermia/hyperthermia) management
• Previous charge nurse experience and/or community hospital background
