Key Responsibilities
- Deliver accurately prescribed courses of radiation therapy to patients with minimal supervision, in accordance with established practices and standards.
- Prepare treatment rooms and equipment for each patient per the prescribed plan, including immobilization devices, field size, treatment distances, and lead protection devices.
- Maintain visual and audio communication with patients throughout treatment, explain procedures, and observe for unusual reactions, reporting findings to the Radiation Oncologist as appropriate.
- Accurately maintain patient treatment charts, therapeutic dosages, and photographic documentation of patients and their ports in accordance with billing and departmental procedures.
- Assist in tumor localization procedures, dosimetry procedures, and simulation procedures including proper patient and machinery positioning and diagnostic film management.
- Participate in and document quality assurance activities such as weekly SSD checks and diode readings, and report any treatment errors or equipment malfunctions immediately to the Physicist and Radiation Oncologist.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a Committee on Allied Health Education accredited radiology program or equivalent.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Active New Mexico state licensure required upon hire.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Two to five years of clinical radiation therapy experience.
- Experience with IMRT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy) techniques.
- Experience with LDR (Low-Dose Rate) and/or HDR (High-Dose Rate) brachytherapy procedures.
