Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure students meet educational and behavioral objectives
- Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities, adapting lesson plans, teaching strategies, and assessments to meet individual needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, school counselors, and support staff to integrate students into general education settings and support academic and social development
- Implement behavioral management strategies using positive reinforcement and consistent techniques to maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment
- Regularly assess student progress, adjust teaching methods and IEPs as needed, and maintain thorough documentation of student performance
- Maintain open communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress, IEP goals, and recommendations for home support
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education required
- Valid Missouri teaching certification in Special Education required
- Experience working with students with a range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, autism, and developmental delays
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, techniques, and best practices, including IDEA and Section 504
- Ability to assist students with mobility or physical needs as required by their IEPs
- Ability to lift and move classroom materials and equipment as needed
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Master's degree in Special Education preferred
- Previous experience working with students with special needs in an educational setting
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple IEPs and progress monitoring responsibilities
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and passion for supporting students with special needs
