Key Responsibilities
- Verify physician orders prior to evaluation and conduct thorough patient assessments incorporating psychological and physical considerations, including chart review and objective measurements relative to diagnosis and condition.
- Administer and direct all Occupational Therapy treatments and modalities including ADL activities, splinting, ROM exercises, endurance building, strengthening, cognitive retraining, and coordination and dexterity training to support maximum rehabilitation potential.
- Establish goals and individualized plans of care in collaboration with the patient, family members, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Apply or supervise appropriate therapeutic modalities such as hot moist packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, paraffin, soft tissue mobilization, balance training, and functional mobility training, monitoring patient tolerance throughout.
- Acquire and inspect appropriate equipment for safety and communicate evaluation findings, treatment procedures, and equipment use to patients and families.
- Maintain ongoing communication with referring physicians regarding patient progress and recommend treatment modifications as indicated.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Current, active New Mexico state Occupational Therapy license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Experience in an acute care setting.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated accountability and proficiency in assessment, decision-making, and time management.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Minimum of one (1) year of Occupational Therapy experience preferred.
- Familiarity with knowledge of indications and contraindications for a broad range of OT modalities.
