Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and efficient analyses on blood and other body fluids using manual and automated methods to support diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Prepare, log, and process specimens by verifying patient identification, entering required information, and ensuring appropriate testing is ordered.
- Monitor and ensure quality control criteria are met before releasing any reports; repeat procedures and request new specimens when necessary.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and check the performance of all laboratory instruments and equipment daily; communicate issues to supervisors promptly.
- Manage departmental reagent and supply inventory, including rotation, dating, and testing of reagents to ensure accuracy and availability.
- Assist with training of technical personnel, participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance activities, and support implementation of new procedures or equipment evaluations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified MT or MLS through ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, or equivalent certifying body.
- Ability to maintain proficiency across all clinical departments of the laboratory.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with medical staff, patients, and fellow employees.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in Blood Bank operations.
- Experience in Microbiology within a clinical laboratory setting.
