Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (ED Holding / Float Pool)

Contract | Night Shift (4x12 Hours, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | Onsite | Every other weekend required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to adult patients in an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department, managing patients awaiting inpatient bed placement with any adult medical/surgical diagnosis
- Monitor and manage telemetry, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, using cardiac monitors and remote telemetry systems
- Float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed, including care of PCU-level patients at applicable ratios (1:6 MS/Tele or 1:4 PCU)
- Perform and manage a broad range of clinical skills including blood product administration, PICC and peripheral line management, chest tube care, CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula, tracheostomy management, and isolation precautions
- Utilize facility systems including Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication management, and SBAR for communication
- Be available to serve on Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state license
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Proficiency in MS/Tele skills including telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, renal failure care, colostomy and feeding tube care, phlebotomy, heparin and insulin administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Preferred Experience / Skills
- NIHSS certification; experience with CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injuries, or traumatic brain injury
- Experience with IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, accessing ports, and central line blood draws
- Orthopedic trauma, total joint replacement, and wound care/wound vac experience
- Familiarity with starting IVs and managing complex multi-diagnosis adult patient populations
