We’re seeking a dedicated Middle School Science Teacher to lead engaging, inclusive, and innovative classrooms for students in grades 5-8. Position Details:

  • Location: Washington, DC
  • Pay: Starting at $43/hour
  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with an international curriculum, emphasizing inquiry, problem-solving, and student-centered learning.
  • Utilize arts-integration and inclusive practices to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with disabilities, ELL students, and gifted learners.
  • Conduct formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional adjustments.
  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and social-emotional development through hands-on experiments, child-initiated explorations, and play.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and families to support each student's academic and social-emotional well-being.
  • Incorporate instructional technology effectively into lessons to enhance engagement and understanding.
  • Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture that celebrates individuality and promotes student well-being.
  • Maintain detailed anecdotal and formal assessments to track developmental milestones in communication, self-regulation, and social skills.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Science, or a related field.
  • Valid D.C. Teaching License with Science Endorsement preferred.
  • Proven experience teaching middle school science (7th grade experience highly regarded).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate school-age children, especially in urban settings.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and the community.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a willingness to take innovative instructional risks.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including children with developmental differences, linguistically, and ethnically diverse learners.
  • Commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.

Additional Skills and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating instructional technology into lessons.
  • Familiarity with arts-based, STEAM, and project-based learning methodologies.
  • Prior experience with assessment data-driven instruction and portfolio assessments.
