Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology

Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 13–26 Week Contracts
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and monitoring for a Medical Surgical Oncology unit with a daily census of approximately 42 patients, maintaining a target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
- Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, and related treatments via IV, PO, or injection in accordance with unit protocols and certification requirements
- Manage and care for patients presenting with diagnoses including AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, encephalopathy, malignant neoplasms, diabetic foot ulcers, and related conditions
- Perform specialized nursing skills including port access, central line blood draws, PICC line management, blood product administration, wound care, surgical drain management, and chest tube care
- Float to similar units and alternate care locations including inpatient holding areas as needed based on census demands
- Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and be available to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in NC or a Compact state
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an inpatient setting, with Medical/Surgical background required
- BLS certification required
- Proficiency in skills including colostomy care, peripheral line care and management, heparin and insulin administration, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Willingness to obtain ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification prior to or during assignment (onsite training provided)
- Ability to work every other weekend and make up any called-off shifts; attendance at monthly staff meetings required
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification already obtained
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credential
- Charge nurse experience and CPI certification
