Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Every other weekend and every other holiday required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a 20-bed, all-private, fully monitored cardiovascular ICU with ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1 depending on patient acuity
  • Manage a complex cardiovascular patient population including post open-heart surgical patients (CABG, valve, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids), STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVRs, and ventilated patients
  • Titrate multiple vasoactive and sedation drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol per protocol and physician orders
  • Operate and troubleshoot specialty intervention equipment including IABPs, Impella, Swan-Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT; manage lines including PICC, midlines, CVCs, arterial lines (radial and femoral)
  • Read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips independently; all patients monitored via Philips monitoring system with monitor tech support available
  • Float to all levels of care as needed; travelers are expected to take a full patient team assignment

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN licensure applicable to the state of Illinois
  • Minimum of 2 years of solid CVICU experience required; must be able to function independently from day one without unit-specific equipment training
  • BLS certification required
  • Proficiency with cardiovascular ICU equipment and procedures including swans, CVCs, arterial lines, temporary pacemakers, IABPs, ECMO, and ventilator management
  • Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation skills; ability to titrate multiple drips simultaneously
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, strong assessment skills, effective communication, and ability to perform in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • ACLS certification preferred
  • CCRN certification is a plus
  • Experience with immediate post-operative cardiac surgical patients
  • Familiarity with VAD management and/or cardiac transplant patient care
