Key Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and efficient analyses on blood and other body fluids using manual and automated methods to support diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Prepare and process specimens by verifying patient identification, logging samples, entering required patient information, and ensuring proper test orders are fulfilled.
• Monitor and ensure quality control criteria are met prior to releasing any reports; repeat procedures and request new specimens as appropriate.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and check the performance of all laboratory instruments and equipment daily, communicating any issues to supervisors promptly.
• Maintain sufficient inventory of reagents and supplies, rotating and dating materials as received to prevent expiration and ensure availability.
• Participate in proficiency testing, quality assurance activities, and assist with training of technical personnel as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, or equivalent certifying body.
• Ability to maintain proficiency across all clinical departments of the laboratory.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to review results for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with delta checks and previous results.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and patient care areas.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in blood bank operations.
• Experience in microbiology within a clinical laboratory setting.
